Ice Hockey
(Last updated: 06.10.2025)
Aside from the following special betting rules, the common betting rules apply. The special rules will take precedence over the common rules nevertheless.
1.) Date: For “American Ice Hockey” (NHL, AHL, UHL, WHL, OHL and Quebec Major Junior hockey league), all games must be played on the scheduled calendar day (at venue) and at the scheduled venue for bets to stand.
2.) Overtime: Overtime (including any subsequent shootout) counts for all markets unless stated otherwise. In the event of a shoot out, the winning team are credited with one goal and this counts for all markets where applicable.
3.) Playing Time: If the match is abandoned before the official outcome then the result is regarded to be official after
- “55” minutes of play for “American Ice Hockey” (NHL, AHL, UHL, WHL, OHL and Quebec Major Junior hockey league).
- “60” minutes of play for “Non American Ice Hockey”.
Unless otherwise stated, this rule applies to all kinds of bets.
4.) 2-Way: All bets will be settled on the final result including Overtime and Penalty Shoot-outs, unless otherwise stated.
5.) Match Betting 3-Way
All bets will be settled on the final match result after regulation time. Overtime and Penalty Shoot-outs do not count.
6.) Puck Line: A puck line is a bet where a handicap is given to a selection. The result used for settling is the match result adjusted for the handicap line available at the time the bet is struck. For example, Tampa Bay +1.5 v Calgary -1.5, result: Tampa Bay 2-3 Calgary. Tampa Bay wins on the handicap. Overtime counts for all puck lines.
7.) Total Goals/Team Goals: The game total result is the combined goals for both teams inclusive of overtime. At least 15 minutes of official time must elapse in the third period for bets to stand, unless the total is already over. In the event of the totals goals being the exact quote but no exact price is offered, all stakes are refunded.
8.) Race to X Goals: The winner will be the team to achieve the number of specified goals first. This market includes Overtime and any subsequent shootout. In the event of a shootout, the winning team is credited with one goal.
9.) First Player to Score: If a player has not entered the field of play before the first goal has been scored, then this player is deemed a “non-runner” which means that all bets on this player are void. Overtime does not count. In the event of an abandoned game, bets stand on scores that have already taken place.
10.) Player(s) props: The respective player(s) must dress for bets to stand. Overtime counts for all proposition markets, except for those that are based on specific periods of play. At least 15 minutes of official time must elapse in the third period for bets to stand.
11.) Winner of 1st, 2nd or 3rd Period: Only the goals scored within the nominated period count. Unless otherwise stated, overtime does not count for the result of the 3rd period. Dead heat rules apply to the Highest Scoring Period market.
12.) Goalbet (Correct Score): If the final result is outside offered outcomes, all bets will be settled as “lost”.
13.) If a moneyline, total or handicap bet ends in a draw and no odds have been offered for this option, all bets will be void.
14.) Regular Season Points: All teams must play all regular season games for bets to stand. If the season is shortened for whatever reason, then all bets will be void, unless the highest possible option has already been attained, in which case all bets stand.
15.) How many 2 or 5 minute penalties will be awarded in the Xth period? For this bet, each 2 minute or 5 minute penalty counts as 1, so if 3 x 2 minute penalties are awarded, the winning option will be 'Under 3,5'. If, however, a 2 + 2 minute penalty is awarded, it counts as 2 x 2 minutes. This means if 1 x 5 minute, 1 x 2 minute and 2 + 2 minute penalties are awarded, the winning option will be 'Over 3,5'. All penalties awarded before a period starts are counted for the previous period, so if a 2 minute penalty is given during the 1st intermission, this counts for the 1st period.
16.) Rest of Regular Time/Rest of Period X: This bet is settled referring to the result of the game between the placement of the bet and the end of regular time / period. The correct result is the theoretical outcome of the game if the score at the time of bet placement had been 0:0. The current score at the time of bet placement is displayed in the market game, i.e. ‘Rest of Regular Time – current result 1:2’ so if game ends 2:3 then draw will be winning option. The bet "Rest of Period X" is settled accordingly.
17.) “Grand Salami”/NHL: This bet refers to the total number of goals scored over all the matches played on a given day. Only games played on the day (according to the NHL schedule) count. Should any games be postponed or any games added to the schedule after the initial odds have been posted, then all bets will be void. Should any games be abandoned during play, then all bets will be void. Points scored in overtime are included. In the event of a shootout, the winning team are credited with one goal.
18.) All Star Game: Each game is 20 minutes, the entire game must be played for bets to stand. Overtime counts for all markets. The All Star winner is the team that wins the final
19.) Division Champions: If the season is shortened for any reason then bets will be settled based on the Division Champion declared by the respective governing body.
20.) Nominated Finalists: The finalists are the players/teams that really content the final regardless of how they get there, including decisions made by any governing bodies.
21.) Playing time exception: Matches in Russian Liga Pro are played over 30 minutes (3*10 minutes periods) and this is considered Regular Time in this league.
22.) Short Hockey leagues have listed playing time of 3x10 or 3x15 minutes and this is considered regular time for these leagues.
23.) Winner and Both Teams to Score X Goals : Bet is on which team will win the game and whether both teams will score the specified number of goals. This market is settled based on regular time only and does not include overtime.
Ice Hockey Betting Rules (Build a Bet)
Selection and Bet Results
All ice hockey Build A Bet selections must win (no ties, draws or pushes) for a bet to be deemed a winner.
A selection that does not win, unless explicitly specified within this document, will be settled as a loser. If one or more selections in any bet are resulted as void for any reason (such as a selected player not participating in the match – see section 4), the entire bet will be resulted as void.
For instance, selections on a team to win a match where it is a draw after overtime (or normal time if no overtime is to be played), even where the draw or tie may not have been offered through Build A Bet, will be settled as losers. This will not be relevant to NHL matches as they advance to shootouts after a tied overtime period (regular season) or play open-ended sudden death overtime (playoffs), but may be applicable to other ice hockey leagues or competitions as per their individual competition rules.
Similarly, ‘Race to X’ selections where neither team reaches the selected score will be settled as losers, regardless of whether a ‘neither team to reach X’ selection was available as an alternate selection or not. If a period finishes scoreless, then goalscoring selections such as First or Last Goalscorer for that period will be settled as losers.
Overtime/Shootouts
All ice hockey matches will be settled on the official declared result including any overtime and shootouts. Goals scored in shootouts are disregarded for settlement purposes. The goal assigned to
the score of a winning team after a shootout (e.g. the only goal in a game that finishes 0-0 after overtime and therefore 1-0 after the shootout) counts for the purposes of total game score and total team goal selections, but is not assigned to a player and does not count towards the settlement of any player scoring markets.
Third Period Markets
All third period market selections do include overtime and the resultant goal from shootouts if they occur. For example, a total third period goals selection would include the goals scored in both the third period and the winning goal from either overtime or resulting from the shootout. BetBuilder Wagering Rules – Ice Hockey 2.
Player Specific Markets
All player selections will be considered active if a player takes to the rink as an active player at any point of the relevant match, regardless of whether the selection in question references a specific period of the match. If a player never enters the rink during a match, selections specific to that player will be void. For instance, a selection on a certain player to score in the third period would be
active (and therefore settled as a loser) if that player played the first two minutes of a match, was injured, and did not return to the game, regardless of having never been on the ice during the third period. However, if that player was injured shortly before the game commenced, was withdrawn from the starting lineup (or bench) and never took the ice, the selection and therefore bet would be void.
Postponed and Incomplete Matches
Where a match is postponed or incomplete, and subsequently resumed or played within 24 hours (inclusive) of the original scheduled start time, all bets will stand. All bets placed on games played which commence more than 24 hours past the originally scheduled start time will be void. Once the 24 hours have expired, all bets are void and stakes will be refunded.
Abandoned Matches
If a game is abandoned prior to commencement, it falls within the 24-hour rule for postponed matches as described above. If it is abandoned after commencing but before its natural end point, the following rules apply:
-
Build A Bets will be void if they include at least one selection involving a player who has not yet entered the rink as an active player. The rules outlined below are all applied subject to and subsequent to the application of this rule.
-
2. If every selection within an Build A Bet on the game is already a winner where the fact of abandonment had no impact on the outcome of each selection, the Build A Bet in its entirety will be treated as a winner. For example, a 2-leg Build A Bet containing an over total goals selection and a certain player to score, in a game where the required goals have been reached and the player did score before the game was subsequently abandoned, will be treated as a winner. In this case, the abandonment had no impact on either selection. The same would not apply to an under total goals selection where a game is abandoned while the total score is still under the chosen number, as the abandonment would impact that outcome.
-
If a single selection of an Build A Bet has lost and a match is then abandoned, the Build A Bet will be treated as a loser, where regardless of the fact of abandonment, the selection(s) in question had been irrevocably concluded. For example, an Build A Bet including a first team to score selection, in a game where the other team scored first and the match was
subsequently abandoned, will be treated as a loser. In this case, the bet had already lost, and this outcome could not be affected in any way by whether the game was subsequently abandoned or not. BetBuilder Wagering Rules – Ice Hockey 3
-
If there are no losing selections within a Build A Bet and at least one void selection at the time of a match abandonment, the Build A Bet will be treated as void. This rule applies where one or more selections are still undecided at abandonment, and may have won or lost if the game had been completed as scheduled. For example, a Build A Bet including an over total goals selection, in a game abandoned while the total goals are still below the required amount, will be treated as void. In this case, the total goals selection was still undecided and may have won or lost but for the abandonment, so the bet will be voided.
Venue Changes
If the venue of a match is changed from the one advertised, all bets on that match will be voided.
